For this assignment, students are required to synthesize texts in order to make conclusions about artists and what they are trying to communicate in their work. They are then asked to record their conclusions in either written or digital format.
For this assignment, students were studying ‘social justice artists’ or ‘activist artists’ in order to gain an understanding of how to communicate the message of change within their art. To begin, students were assigned an artist to research and fill out a note catcher on. The slides linked demonstrate the four different artists the students could have been assigned. Students then synthesized the text and images in the slides to fill out the note catcher. Students were then required to discuss in small groups their findings about the artist they had been assigned so that students had an understanding of all four artists, not just the one they studied.
