During this exercise, students were asked to investigate one of four contemporary artists that they had been assigned and complete a note-catcher about the artist. Students were assigned with an artist as well as a number, which can be seen written on the note catcher next to the artist’s name. After completing their notes, students were moved into groups based off of the number they were assigned. In each group, there was a student that had studied a different artist, creating a group where students could discuss all four artists and gain a general understanding of the social justice issue they were focusing on in their artwork. In hindsight, another worksheet or activity should have been created to keeps groups accountable for discussing each artist and considering how they were using their work to create a change in the world.
